KJ Apa Lands Archie Role in CW Pilot
New Zealander hottie, K.J. Apa, has been cast to play the iconic comic book teen, Archie, in The CW’s Riverdale pilot based on the Archie Comics characters.
Set in present time, Riverdale is a subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends, exploring the quirks and oddities of their hometown.
According to ‘Deadline’, Apa’s Archie Andrews will play an intense, conflicted teen, a boyish high school sophomore who got pumped up over the summer working construction and is now juggling the interest of several girls, as well as trying to balance his passion for writing and performing music — against the wishes of his father and his football coach.
Apa’s acting credits prior to Riverdale was a role on long-running Australian soap opera Shortland Street for 46 episodes.
