Tom Hardy Unceremoniously Shuts Down Reporter Asking About His Sexuality
While promoting ‘Legend’ at Toronto International Film Festival, Tom Hardy snapped when a reporter asked his sexuality.
Tom Hardy plays a bisexual gangster in ‘Legend’, where he co-stars with himself as the infamous East End London gangster twins Ronnie Kray and Reggie Kray in a violent period drama. A reporter from Toronto LGBT publication Daily Xtra had the audacity to ask actor’s “ambiguous” sexuality based on an interview he gave to Attitude magazine in past.
Hardy became enraged, “What on earth are you on about?”
Back in 2008, Hardy did an interview with ‘Attitude’, in which he was asked whether he had experimented with men and he was quoted as saying, “As a boy? Of course I have. I’m an actor for ****’s sake. I’ve played with everything and everyone. I love the form and the physicality, but now that I’m in my thirties, it doesn’t do it for me. I’m done experimenting but there’s plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life.”
Hardy later clarified his statement and denied that he was gay. He said he was referring to experimenting for films not in real life.
Hardy was visibly pissed that the subject matter was brought up again. “But what is your question?” Hardy asked the reporter in a loud and resolute voice. The reporter asked again, “I’m wondering if you find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality.” Hardy responded with a quick slap down, “I don’t find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality. Are you asking about my sexuality?” The reporter replied, “Hum … sure.”
Hardy then asked, “Why?” before dismissing the reporter with “thank you.”
