Chris Evans & Jeremy Renner Face Backlash For Sexist Comments
’Avengers: Age of Ultron’ heartthrobs Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner are under fire for sexist comments to describe their costar Scarlett Johansson’s character.
During a recent interview with ‘Digital Spy’, the pair were asked about why Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow character gets romantically linked — in fans’ minds, anyway — to so many male characters. Renner says it’s because “She’s a slut,” causing Evans to burst into peals of laughter. “I was gonna say something along that line,” Evans says laughingly. “She’s a complete wh$re!” he adds.
Many Twitter users have expressed their disgust to the actors for their choice of words.
UPDATE: Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner have both issued statement, expressing their regret for their derogatory comments made about Black Widow.
“Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America,” Evans said in a statement provided to EW. “We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.”
“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone,” Renner also said in a statement provided to EW. “It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
