Norman Reedus ‘Walking Dead’ Character Could be Gay
Our favorite ‘Walking Dead’ character Daryl Dixon played by the ruggedly handsome Norman Reedus may be gay, show creator hints.
There has always been speculation about who Daryl Dixon would be with. Carol admirably up-front flirted with him but did not go nowhere. While Beth has set her sights on him, but it seems the attraction is not mutual. Could his apparent indecision be because he’s into men all along?
‘Walking Dead’ creator Robert Kirkman just gave us a hint when a reader asked him if there’s any chance of Daryl being gay:
“All I can say is that it’s been discussed,” Kirkman told ComicBook.com “We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we’ll tackle it in the show.”
The original comic series has an openly gay character Jesus, who has many of the same qualities as Daryl.
But actor Reedus has said that he doesn’t think that his character is ready to hookup with anybody yet. “As far as hooking Daryl up with love interests, it’s not an easy sell,” the actor said. “It’s a big pill to swallow because he’s not ready. Once he’s ready, it’s done. Once you do that, it’s over with. But I really like that I’ve been given the opportunity to explore this character, to work with the writers, with and the directors to bring out the little nuances. It’s all the stuff behind the curtain that makes him a well-rounded person.”
Reedus has added that he thinks Daryl would make a good boyfriend. “I think he would be a loyal boyfriend, I think he’d be a good protector, he would probably be real honest and try his hardest.”
That said, Reedus has gleefully played into the rumours by posting a picture of him kissing co-star Andrew Lincoln on his Twitter account.
The ‘Walking Dead’ season 5 will premiere Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on AMC.
