Louis Tomlinson charges $250 for selfies
‘One Direction’ singer Louis Tomlinson was recently unveiled as the new owner of the Doncaster Rovers soccer club and in a bid to finance the team, he’s milking his fans for their money — charging them $250 to have their picture taken with him.
Tomlinson completed a takeover deal of the League One club with cosmetic surgery magnate John Ryan last week, said the pair are hoping to attract €2.5 million from supporters as part of their crowd-funding project. To put that into perspective, that is around 11,625 selfies that Tomlinson will have to take with fans.
Tomlinson, who is a lifelong fan of his hometown soccer club, said: “I want to see the Doncaster Rovers supporters get the club the success it deserves … This is a big step which I believe will open up opportunities to provide a very, very exciting future for the club and its supporters.”
The deal was completed just weeks after Tomlinson was caught up in a drug scandal last month when a leaked video appeared to show him smoking marijuana with bandmate Zayn Malik.
Tomlinson has vowed to “grow up” and put his wild ways behind him now he is a co-owner of the football club.
“I have to mature a little bit”, he said. “This is life-changing for me. I’m going to have to start acting dead serious. I can’t be a big kid anymore, or play pranks.
“I will be committing a lot of time to it. I’ve said that I want to be across absolutely everything… I guess I am a businessman now.
“I know there will be a few eyebrows raised about me doing this. But hopefully the results go a certain way and we’ll create a successful club.”
