Josh Duhamel Wants Son to Understand He’s Fortunate
Hot daddy Josh Duhamel feels that family tradition is important and wants his eight-month-old son Axl to volunteer when he’s older.
Growing up in a small town in North Dakota, the ‘Safe Haven’ actor says he helped others when he was a child, having been introduced to volunteering by his parents and he wants to encourage his son to follow in his footsteps.
He told ‘PEOPLE’ Magazine: “As a kid, my mother encouraged us to get involved. But when you’re a kid you don’t really want to do stuff like that. You want to do fun stuff. But I always remembered it being fulfilling.
“I want my son to understand that he is very fortunate and it’s important to appreciate that and give back.”
Josh is teaching by example and has been planning a benefit concert with the Black Eyed Peas in his hometown on Minot in North Dakota, which was hit by a devastating flood in 2011.
He has teamed up with the Advil Relief in Action campaign, which encourages volunteering, to raise money for the cause and help local people to get their lives back on track.
Josh said: “According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the rate of volunteerism in 2013 was the lowest it’s been since 2002. That is amazing to me. Programs like this encourage people to get involved. It truly brings out the best of people.”
