Travis Fimmel’s ‘Vikings’ Renewed for Second Season
Model-turned-actor Travis Fimmel has turned his ax-wielding hero Ragnar Lothbrok into something of a breakout role. In the midst of its successful debut season, History’s ‘Vikings’ has been renewed for a second season.
The historical drama is currently in the midst of its initial run of 9 episodes and is averaging a strong 5 million total viewers, including 2.2 million adults 25-54 and 1.9 million adults 18-49.
“’Vikings’ is a win win for us. As our first scripted series, ‘Vikings’ has paid off in a big way with critical acclaim, strong ratings and a passionate, loyal fan base,” Dirk Hoogstra, History’s executive vice president of development and programming, said of the “Vikings” renewal in a statement. “It came out of the gate strong and has stayed on top, solidifying History as a major player in the scripted genre, just as we are in reality. We could not be more proud of the entire cast and crew and everyone involved in the making of ‘Vikings.'”
“It was an amazing experience,” an excited Fimmel said. “I’m so happy that I’m at this point in my career.”
‘Vikings’ airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on History and will air its Season 1 finale on April 28 at 10 p.m. Production on Season 2 will commence this summer for a 2014 premiere.
