‘90210’ removing Trevor Donovan’s gay character Teddy
Trevor Donovan has confirmed that he will not return to ‘90210’ as a series regular next season.
His character Teddy Montgomery struggled with his sexuality throughout the teen drama’s third run, before finally coming out as gay.
“I look back on getting this real-life story line as a blessing,” Donovan told TVLine in a statement. “To be able to simultaneously take on a challenging role and bring awareness to a relevant social issue was a win-win for me. I’m looking forward to what opportunities and adventures lie ahead.”
Although a spokesperson for the show declined to comment, a ‘90210’ insider says Donovan will only appear as a guest star in roughly five episodes this fall as producers phase out the character.
The fourth season of ‘90210’ will air in a new slot on Tuesdays at 8/7c in the fall on the CW.
